GREETINGS FROM BAKITA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
On behalf of the Management and staff of the National Kiswahili Council (BAKITA) which is under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports in the United Republic of Tanzania, I am pleased to welcome you all to our newly upgraded website for information about various activities undertaken by our Institution to promote and develop Kiswahili locally, regionally and internationally
It is my hope that this website shall be the best way to enable the public to obtain important information about BAKITA and its day to day activities. Among the activities include Standardization, Teaching of Kiswahili to Foreigners, to offer Practical Refresher Course for Interpreters, Editing of various Manuscripts, Imprimature of Academic Texts, Writing and supplying of various books including Kamusi Kuu ya Kiswahili, Furahia Kiswahili, Mwongozo wa Taifa wa Ufundishaji wa Kiswahili kwa Wageni and many more. Moreover, BAKITA offers various services including Translation, Interpretation, Seminars and Workshops for Journalists and Masters of Ceremonies.
Likewise, through this website, stakeholders and the public at large shall be educated on various issues related to the use of correct and standard Kiswahili, which is our national language, and one of the African language of wider communication. The language has further shone following the move of the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to declare it to be among international languages by setting a Special World Kiswahili Language Day, which is celebrated on 7th of July each year.
I call upon all stakeholders to visit this website regularly, and contact us for comments and advice for improvements and getting further clarifications on our services. “What you have is the most reliable and the useful weapon is the one on hand” and for us it is Kiswahili.
